Supermodel Heidi Klum is being sued for allegedly ripping off jewelry designs for her own range of accessories. The German stunner is accused by swanky designers Van Cleef & Arpels of lifting their custom-made clover design, according to U. The firm is upset that pieces in Klum’s collection for Mouward USA are too similar to their own Alhambra line. Now they are suing Klum for copyright infringement and unfair competition in Manhattan federal court. Van Cleef & Arpels is only seeking more than $75,000 in damages, not much more than the $61,200 their vintage diamond clover necklaces cost. Titanium Jewelry

Titanium JewelryWhen we think about jewelry we usually picture precious metals and gemstones. While this is great for the ladies not many guys embrace the whole glitz and glamour approach to accessories. Men usually prefer something more masculine. Titanium jewelry is the perfect gift for any guy on your shopping list.

I couldn’t get my husband to wear any jewelry aside from his watch and wedding ring. He really hated the idea of wearing anything that was too shiny and showy for his character. I found titanium jewelry online and decided to try this as a masculine option to silver and gold.

The great thing about titanium jewelry is its simplicity. The metal is very strong but not too shiny in its raw form. I found a great titanium bracelet for my husband that he will actually wear because the subtle nature of the metal. He also likes that it doesn’t have as much luster and glitz as silver and gold.

You can find items made out of this metal at just about any jeweler’s store. I chose to do my shopping online for the titanium. This approach works best for me because I can research an item without feeling pressure from a pushy sales person. The titanium jewelry I found online was vast and I was surprised by the variety of items available in this metal.

Black titanium jewelry
is great because it does have great shine without the glitz. The black polished version of this metal tends to be a little more expensive than its raw counterparts. I chose to get a ring for my husband in this metal just because I wanted to see some shine but not so much that it would frighten him off.

Prices for this kind of item spans a great range and I’m still trying to figure out why. I have noticed that the less polish and shine, the less the titanium jewelry costs for the buyer. I suppose that the raw form is much easier to produce so it is naturally less expensive.

This is great news for me because my husband loves the raw titanium jewelry. I can find amazing deals on this kind of product easily. You can find great deals as well. Titanium jewelry is sold online for as low as 5 measly bucks for a watch. Of course, I did have to purchase the watch for my husband.

Now he has a regular titanium jewelry collection. I doubt that he will ever be so bold as to wear all of the items at once but it is nice to know that I have found a metal that he likes to wear. I might be pushing it if I bought a necklace for him though.

Antique Brooch

Antique Brooch
An antique brooch may not be on the top ten pieces of jewelry that every
woman owns but it should be. This item can add elegant charm to your
wardrobe
and it can add character as well. Finding an antique brooch that
matches your style as well as your personality is a snap. Pairing the item
with select items in your wardrobe is even easier.

Right now there are so many accessories available that beg for an antique
brooch
as an accent. Scarves offer great detail and they can dress up just
about any boring old outfit
. You can take your look over the top by adding
an antique brooch into the mix. This delicate piece of jewelry can add
glimmer and sparkle that accents your scarf whether it is fine silk or heavy
wool.

Ponchos are coming into vogue. These accessories are fantastic and they
serve to keep the wearer sophisticatedly warm and cozy. Even the most
decorative poncho could use a little help just by the nature of their
design. An antique brooch is the perfect accessory that merges antiquity and
classic charm with modern, cutting edge style.

Wraps are really hot right now and these accessories are ideal for an
antique brooch. I can’t say how many times I have worn a wrap just to find
myself struggling with the awkward accessory all evening long. I love the
look but I hate that the wrap never stays put long enough for me to get
comfortable. Adding an antique brooch is a great way to add some detail as
well as some well-needed support.

The structure of your outfit hinges on the finer details. When you add a
scarf you are making a statement but when you add an antique brooch you are
adding structure as well. There is something more personal about this fine
piece of jewelry that makes a greater impact than even the most outstanding
necklace.

You have control over the way that your accessories drape on your outfit
when you use an antique brooch to support the fabric. You can actually make
several looks out of the same accessories just by changing the placement of
the pin. It is remarkable how much you can add just by selecting the right
antique brooch.

And there are plenty of options in this jewelry as well. Whether you love
diamonds or pearls, silver or gold, you can be sure that you can find your
ideal antique brooch.

You can buy hundreds of different types of designer costume jewelry, it’s not difficult to find as they are available in many different shops. Cubic Zirconia Engagement Rings

Cubic Zirconia Engagement Rings
Are you about ready to tie the knot? Okay, what does that really mean anyway? I never saw any knot anywhere when I was married. Maybe a couple rings and some vows, but no knot. Regardless, you could look at it in a sense of devotion. You are now devoting yourself, body and soul, to another human being. So I guess in a way you’re tied together. Oh, it will definitely feel that way after a few years anyway. Okay forget I said that. On to more important issues at-hand. Take the ring for example. What is the deal here? Are you going all out with that phenomenal band that draws the attention of women for miles? Or have you pretty much been checking out cubic zirconia engagement rings? This is a serious issue, my friend. Approach it wisely. A small mistake could change it all.

I am about to spew out my take on cubic zirconia engagement rings. I will be blunt and completely candid. Although cubic zirconia engagement rings are everywhere now days and many women accept them, I think they’re lame. Now, hold on for a second before you get ticked off and offended. I simply do not care for cubic zirconia engagement rings because they represent fake diamonds. That’s just lame if you ask me. If you want a diamond, purchase a diamond. There are ones you can afford out there. Heck, don’t be a cheapskate! After all, how often do you get married? Hopefully not very often. Is the woman you’re planning to spend your life with important or not? How much does she mean to you? Ponder this for a while. Now, having said that; do you even want a diamond ring? Maybe you want to do what I did and go with a nice hefty birth stone mounted in a beautiful band. This was not too expensive either. However, much will depend on your wife’s birthstone. Either way, you won’t be taking the fake route with cubic zirconia engagement rings. I prefer the birthstone because I feel that it’s more unique and personal. It stands out in the crowd and isn’t so blaaaa.

Okay, if you’re still in the market for cubic zirconia engagement rings, you can always get on the Internet and take your pick from hundreds. However, you may want to consider alternative routes. They are not all expensive. So, while you’re surfing for deals on cubic zirconia engagement rings, check out some of the stuff you can have custom made as well.

Blue Topaz

Filed under: Blue Topaz — admin @ 9:00 pm

Blue Topaz
The official stone for the ‘Lone Star’ state of Texas, Topaz is the most popular and widely used gemstone today. It is a naturally occurring stone that comes in a variety of different shades, including blue, amber, red, pink, orange, beige, brown and clear. Though not its most common naturally occurring color, blue topaz is its most popular shade. A recently discovered irradiation process that allows one to color clear topaz different shades of blue has allowed for the widespread use and popularity of blue topaz. Blue topaz is the birthstone for December.

blue-topaz.JPG

There has been a recent trend in jewelry to apply certain impurities, such as titanium oxide, to the stone’s surface, giving it an almost emerald green color. Though blue topaz and these newer green hues of the stone are the most popular, it is the red and orange shades of topaz that are the most rare and most valuable. It’s most common natural color is yellow, and for a long time during the Middle Ages topaz was simply the name for any yellowish gem.

In Ancient Egypt, topaz was thought to contain the glow and power of ‘Ra’ the god of the sun, and any jewelry made with the stone was thought to convey divine protection on its wearer. The Romans had a similar belief, associating the stone with their own sun god ‘Jupiter’. Before them, ancient Greeks believed that the stone could imbue its owner with great strength, and make him invisible in times of danger. Many people today still believe that the stone holds mystical powers, such as the power to heal asthma, cure poisons, correct for poor vision and ease insomnia. Topaz has had more powers associated with it throughout history than any other gemstone.

The name topaz is derived from the Greek work ‘topazos’, which means ‘to seek’. Topazos was an island in the Red Sea that was very hard to find and contained a valuable source of minerals mined in ancient times. The yellowish stones mined from Topazos are now believed to be a different mineral than topaz.

The gem itself is a transparent silicate of the elements aluminum and fluorine. Today, it is usually associated with granite and rhyolite rocks in the mountains of Brazil, Ural, Germany, Scandinavia, Japan, Mexico, and the United States. Though it can be synthesized in a lab, no economically feasible method exists to do so, so virtually all existing topaz is from a natural source.

Vintage Jewelry

Vintage Jewelry

The price of fine jewelry made today leaves those of us with modest budgets at a disadvantage in rounding out a nice collection. Much of the discount store costume jewelry are poorly made of inferior materials. However, there is a middle ground, where beautiful quality pieces may be found without breaking the bank. This is the vintage jewelry market.

Some vintage jewelry can be very expensive, but there are many beautiful pieces made with less expensive materials that are reasonably priced and a credit to any woman’s jewelry box. Many women have made a sort of hobby of searching out these pieces, gathering jewelry pieces appropriate for almost any occasion.

When shopping for vintage jewelry, there are several pointers which will help you determine true value.

For our purposes, we’ll look at vintage jewelry produced since the 1930’s. These are the pieces most often found in today’s vintage jewelry shops.

The Art Deco jewelry style was popular in the days of Flappers and Prohibition, with multiple necklaces worn at once. Perhaps you remember seeing pictures of your grandmother in one of those fantastic short dresses with lots of fringe, and a bevy of bright necklaces “tied” in a loose knot near the end of the strands? New plastics, enamel accents and amber, along with bright colors are characteristic of the time. Chokers were another popular jewelry item.
vintage-jewelry.jpg
The 1940’s brought the Retro style, snapped up in Hollywood society. Large rings with large stones, precious or not became all the rage. Necklaces, bracelets and watches were large, elegant and flashy, a good backdrop to the sleek and tailored styles of the day.

In the post-World War II of the 1950’s, costume jewelry provided a practical but glitzy alternative to their 1940’s counterparts. Rhinestones took center stage, the faux diamond of the day, made of quartz mined from the Rhine River. Rhinestones replaced diamonds, appearing in abundance and decorating necklaces, pendants, bracelets and brooches. Gold plating meant a more affordable piece, and non-tarnishing Rhodium plating was used on silver colored pieces.

The 1960’s ushered in a period of handmade jewelry by individual craftsmen, ranging from inexpensive but unusual designs of hammered over sized brass and silver earrings to Renaissance style ornate pendants and rings. Lost-wax casting was also a popular technique.

One French costume jewelry designer, Lea Stein, came on the scene in the late 1960’s, making a big splash with her cellulose creations featuring cats, big and small, flower and leaf motifs, a variety of animals, music note designs and the like, formed into brooches that cinched her place in jewelry history. Her jewelry is a hot collection item, even today. Watch for these gems of your vintage jewelry searches!

So you see there’s no need to settle for cheap, poor quality jewelry from a discount store. A little searching and perserverance, over time can make you the proud owner of some very classy vintage jewelry, with a fun new hobby to boot!
